(Disney, 1970s-80s) A whiteprint copy of Herb Ryman’s original concept for the very first full depiction of Disneyland. On a Saturday morning in September 1953, Walt Disney asked artist Herb Ryman to come to the Studio right away. Without shaving or showering, Ryman arrived to find Walt with Dick Irvine, Marvin Davis, and Bill Cottrell in a room filled with concept sketches and elevations for Walt's newest dream: Disneyland. Walt excitedly outlined his vision of the Park. Roy Disney was flying to New York on Monday to secure financing with a giant sketch of the Park to represent Walt's vision to the bankers. Ryman asked to see the sketch, and Walt responded, "You're going to do it." From then until Monday morning, Walt and Herb spent a marathon 42 hours creating a 43" x 70" bird's-eye view of the proposed Park. Brownline copies were printed for the presentation book, and hand-colored by Davis and Irvine. The rest is Disney Parks history. Ryman's pencil-on-vellum original is a carefully guarded treasure of Walt Disney Imagineering. This is a studio-produced copy, printed likely in the 1970s or 1980s as a reference. Measuring 24" x 36", the whiteprint is in very good condition with light edge wear and creases.
