(Terrytoons, 1949) An original production drawing of Pearl Purehart and an Edward G. Robinson-inspired gangster cat from the Mighty Mouse short “The Racket Buster.” Accomplished in graphite and colored pencil, with a character image size of 5.75” x 7” on a sheet of 9.5” x 11” animation paper, the drawing is in very good condition with light discoloration from age. Terrytoons was a prolific animation studio known for producing theatrical shorts, including popular series such as Heckle and Jeckle, Gandy Goose, and, most famously, Mighty Mouse. Originally conceived as a parody of Superman, the Mighty Mouse shorts evolved into a spoof of melodramas featuring a cast of archetypal characters, including the damsel in distress and the sinister mustache-twirling villain. In the 1950s, Terrytoons expanded into television, producing series like Deputy Dawg and Tom Terrific.
