(Cambria Productions, 1962-64) A multi-layer production cel and drawing from the sci-fi TV series, “Space Angel”. The ink drawing is by the show’s co-creator and comic book hall of famer Alex Toth. The multi-layer cel measures 10.5” x 12.5” with a character image size of 7.25” x 7.5” and is in very good condition with the exception of one cel layer which has had a 1” wide strip torn off the right side. This layer contains only a single eye and is not affected by the tear. The drawing features all three of the show’s core characters and measures 10.5” x 12.5” with an image size of 7” x 8.5” and is in very good condition with very light creases from production use. Alex Toth is best known for his iconic character designs for Hanna Barbera including Space Ghost, The Herculoids, and Birdman and the Galaxy Trio. His talent was obvious from an early age, as a teacher in his Junior High poster class urged him to devote himself to art. Through the late 1940s and 1950s he drew for top comic books including Flash and Green Lantern for DC Comics, and Disney’s Zorro for Dell. It was as Art Director for the Space Angel animated sci-fi show that he entered the world of animation. Even with a very limited animation style, Toth’s richly detailed drawings gave the series the look of an animated comic book.
