(Sid & Marty Krofft/NBC, 1978) A Talking Candle Puppet from the Krofft Superstar Hour, created by Sid and Marty Krofft. This program was a retooling of The Krofft Supershow on ABC, which had aired for two seasons. The Bay City Rollers replaced fictional group Captain Kool and the Kongs in the new show, and a new segment Horror Hotel featured the group alongside Krofft characters Witchiepoo and Hoodoo, with many talking props including this candle prominently placed center stage on the hotel desk.
Constructed of foam latex, resin, aluminum, styrofoam, and repurposed rope, the candle portion is painted in smoky tallow hues and the stand is painted and finished to appear as ornate bronze metal. This piece was originally sold as lot 34 in the historic Dove Brothers'"50 Years of Sid and Marty Krofft" auction, on August 23, 1998, along with numerous other iconic and imaginative pieces from the Krofft's career. Measuring 15.5" tall and 9" in diameter, the piece is in production used good condition. While most of the foam latex remains supple, there is some cracking and flaking to the reverse of the candle. The stand exhibits some paint chipping and surface loss.
