(Jay Ward,1959-64) An extremely rare production cel and production background from "The Rocky And Bullwinkle Show". This groundbreaking Jay Ward created series was created with a very small budget per episode and as such, Ward had the show animated in Mexico. Almost no original artwork from the original series made it back to the United States. This particular piece is one of only a handful of actual production cels to surface. With a character image size of 8.5” x 9”, the cel and background have been slightly trimmed to 9" x 12" and are in good condition with some warping to the cel and pinholes and edgware to the background from production use. Jay Ward was a prominent figure in children's animation during the 1960s, known for his remarkable roster of cartoon characters, including Rocky and Bullwinkle, Dudley Do-Right, Peabody and Sherman, and George of the Jungle. His influence extended beyond television shows, as his studio also designed iconic cereal mascots such as Cap’n Crunch, Quisp, and Quake, along with a series of animated commercials that helped solidify the connection between breakfast cereals and Saturday morning cartoons. Perhaps Jay Ward’s most significant contribution to the medium was the creation of "Crusader Rabbit," which holds the distinction of being the first animated series made exclusively for television.
