(Disneyland, 1957) An extremely rare original vehicle from the Fantasyland Midget Autopia. Only operating in Disneyland from 1957 through 1966, the cars were built for children too small to ride the full-sized Autopia. The cars were electric rather than motorized and ran on a track. It was extremely popular with small children, but there were problems with the design, capacity, and the overall idea of setting young children off by themselves. The track occupied a fair amount of space in Fantasyland and was removed in 1966 to make way for the It's a Small World attraction. Walt donated the entire ride, the cars, the track, and the electrical system to his boyhood hometown of Marceline Missouri, and even paid for the installation in a local park. The cars ran for several years before the ride was finally closed. This original car is one of only a handful known to exist and features the original body, wheels, and steering wheel from Disneyland, with restored red rims with chrome spinners, a new wood and vinyl seat, windshield bar and "firewall" footrest, and decals. The taillights are S&M vintage 1950's replacements for the originals. Measuring 95"x33"x27.5", the car is in fine restored condition.
