(Disneyland, 2012) An original Fix-It Felix Jr. arcade game used at Disneyland’s Starcade in Tomorrowland. This is one of a very small number of Wreck-It Ralph promotional arcade games created by Disney to be used at special event locations such as the Starcade in Tomorrowland. In the film, Fix-It Felix Jr. is a vintage arcade game from a bygone era. Keeping with this fictional history, this real-life version of the game was intentionally distressed for an added degree of authenticity, allowing the faux-weathered exterior to compliment the retro graphics. Intended as a tribute to Nintendo, the cabinet design is modeled on the original Donkey Kong and Mario Bros. machines. Both the machine and the game bear the logo of fictional software developer TobiKomi, the Japanese word for “jump." Kong was the first game to feature a jumping mechanic and Mario’s original name was Jumpman. The cabinet features custom Fix-It Felix Jr. artwork depicting characters from the film in the marquee, monitor bezel, and control panel. The controls consist of a single joystick and buttons labeled 1-Player, 2-Player, Jump, and Fix. The coin/service door is secured with a metal bar and padlock. The machine does not need or accept change, and the door remains unlocked. The artwork on each side of the cabinet consists of a large vinyl decal of Felix and Ralph, and these features in particular have undergone extensive intentional wear, such as slashes, tears, missing portions, scratches, and scuffs. The back of the machine is equipped with a speaker grill and slot for the power cord. The back panel can be unscrewed to reveal the electronics of the machine, which consists of a partial 2012-era PC computer running Windows XP hooked up to the cabinet’s analog monitor and control panel. A toggle switch on the back at bottom right turns on the cabinet lights and computer, which in turn boots up the game. The electronics have been tested and are in working order. The game has been tested as well and is fully playable. One of the most fun, novel, and fully realized promotional items ever created for a Disney film release, these machines are a true relic of Disney history. Measuring 66.5” x 23.5” and 33” deep, this fully functional arcade machine is in very good condition. Elements of studio distress include surface scrapes and scratches to the cabinet overall, yellowing to the control panel as if from oxidized screws or cigarette burns, paint loss, peeling to the vintage Insert Coin decal, and more. This item may require special shipping arrangements, please inquire for details and estimates.
