(Charlotte Clark, 1940s) An early Donald Duck doll manufactured by Charlotte Clark, creator of the first Mickey Mouse doll. Upon seeing Clark’s dolls, Walt and Roy Disney hired her to manufacture more. High public demand eventually led to a change in how the dolls were made, though the new dolls could not match Clark’s craftsmanship. Due to their rare nature and incredible craftsmanship, Clark’s dolls remain one of the most desirable Disney collectibles to this day. This doll consists of a velveteen-stuffed body and tail feathers, a corduroy sailor hat and tunic with mother of pearl buttons, a cloth beak, oilcloth eyes and felt foot pads. Written in black marker on the doll’s rear is the inscription, “Best wishes to Jackie Faul, From Donald Duck.” Measuring 9.5” x 5.75” x 14.25” tall, the doll displays in very good condition with wear, visible stitches from a previous repair, scuffs, stains, and discoloration from age throughout.
