(Jay Ward, 1960s-70s) A preliminary drawing of “Rocky and Bullwinkle” for a piece of promotional art. The character artwork has an image size of 6.5" x 8.5" on 8.5" x 14" paper and is in very good condition with light handling wear from production use. Jay Ward was a prominent figure in children's animation during the 1960s, known for his remarkable roster of cartoon characters, including Rocky and Bullwinkle, Dudley Do-Right, Peabody and Sherman, and George of the Jungle. His influence extended beyond television shows, as his studio also designed iconic cereal mascots such as Cap’n Crunch, Quisp, and Quake, along with a series of animated commercials that helped solidify the connection between breakfast cereals and Saturday morning cartoons. Perhaps Jay Ward’s most significant contribution to the medium was the creation of "Crusader Rabbit," which holds the distinction of being the first animated series made exclusively for television.
