(Disney, 1940s) A rare animator’s maquette of Mickey’s beloved dog Pluto. Maquettes such as this one were used by animators as a three-dimensional reference while animating characters. Hand-painted and constructed of plaster, only a handful were produced and distributed among the animators. This particular maquette was painted by Helen Nerbovig and was most likely intended as a gift. On the button of the base in pencil reads, “In care of Jack Iversen,” who was an animator at the Disney Studio. Measuring 4.25” x 12.5” x 3.75” tall, the maquette displays in very good condition with light wear from production use.
