(Disney, 1944) A pair of original drawings for the World War II book "The Desert Battalion." Based on the true story of the women who traveled behind enemy lines to entertain soldiers, the book was written by Jack Preston and Gladys Robinson, credited as "Mrs. Edward G. Robinson," and featured original illustrations by Disney Studio artists. Included in the lot are 10 photocopies of correspondence between Gladys, Walt, Roy O. Disney, Kay Kamen, and others, as well as 5 photocopies of photos of Gladys attending book signings. The artwork has image sizes measuring 6" x 9" and 7" x 9.5" on 10" x 12" animated paper. The matted pieces measure 12.5" x 14" and 12.5" x 14.5". The marker artwork is in very good condition with scratches, spots of discoloration, stray marks, and pinholes from display, while the mattes are in fair condition with heavy creases, folds, pinholes, wear, and missing corners.
