(Golden Press, 1958) A first edition of Walt Disney: The Art of Animation by Bob Thomas, signed by an incredible group of Disney Legends and animators, including eight of the legendary Nine Old Men. The book is signed twice each by Frank Thomas, Ollie Johnston, Milt Kahl, John Lounsbery, and Les Clark, with single signatures from the other Old Men, Marc Davis, Eric Larson, and Woolie Reitherman, with only Ward Kimball missing. It is also signed by Bill Justice, Ken Anderson, X. Atencio, Hal King, John Hench, Claude Coats, Cliff Nordberg, and Ken O'Connor. Four drawings are included, with Johnston drawing Prince John, Kahl drawing Robin Hood, Thomas drawing Mickey Mouse, and Lounsbery drawing Donald Duck. The book provides a fascinating look at the Studio and is full of images of animation artwork and production, particularly from"Sleeping Beauty," which was in production at the time. Measuring 8.5" x 11.5", the book is in good condition with heavy edge wear, discoloration from age, names highlighted in the index, and wear. The dust jacket is in poor condition with heavy creases, tears, paper loss, and tape partially holding the spine together.
