(Disney, 1950) An original concept painting by Mary Blair for “Cinderella.” Despite working for the Studio since the 1940s, it was the 1950s that brought Mary Blair to the front line of the Studio Animation Department. Chosen by Walt as the color stylist for “Cinderella,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Peter Pan,” and several theatrical shorts, her adept sense of color set the tone for the first three features of the Studio in the 1950s. Her early concepts are considered extremely desirable by collectors and some of the most important work to come out of the Studio. This concept for “Cinderella” is accomplished in gouache on art board, and explores a tender moment of solitude for the soon-to-be Princess. The painted image measures 7.5” x 8.5” on a 9” x 9.75” artist’s board, and is in very good condition with light edge creases and pinholes at the corners.
