(Hammeras, 1928-35) A collection of photos, clippings, and ephemera related to the 1930 film “Just Imagine.” Effects artist Ralph Hammeras kept these seven scrapbook pages documenting his work on the film and its reception. The film imagines the strange future world of 1980, for which Hammeras designed a massive model of New York City with 250-story skyscrapers and flying transportation. The collection includes nine oversized and three small prints of the model. Also included are over a dozen newspaper and magazine clippings, an Academy Awards banquet ticket and table card with Hammeras’ name, and a letter from the Motion Picture Academy about the first Awards in 1928. On the pages, Hammeras notes personal observations, including that he designed streamlined planes and rockets “long before our space program was even thought of.” Measuring from the 1.5” x 4” table card to the 11” x 15” album pages, the collection is overall in fair to good condition, adhered to the browning album pages, with stains, chipping, and wear from age and handling throughout.
