(Japan, 1930s) A Flip the Frog ceramic planter depicting the Iwerks' character using a pig as a partner in a wheelbarrow race. Measuring 6.25” x 3” x 5” tall, the planter is in good condition with paint loss, stains, smudges, scuffs, and wear. Ub Iwerks, the animator chiefly responsible for the design and animation of the first 15 Mickey Mouse shorts, left the Disney Studio in 1930 after a falling out with Walt. Ub set up Iwerks Studio to produce a series of cartoons with all new characters, most famously, Flip the Frog. Flip starred in only 15 cartoons over a period of three years before being dropped by distributor MGM. Unlike his contemporary rival, Mickey Mouse, merchandise featuring the character is incredibly rare, particularly pieces in good condition such as the ones offered here.
