(Disney Parks, 1956-77) An original Park-used train bell, preserved as a meeting bell by the Order of the Red Handkerchief. The Order has its origin with Rainbow Cavern Mine Trains operators meeting for drinks or to play cards after work. When the attraction evolved into the Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland in 1960, the original miners began to carry a red handkerchief in the back left pocket of their costumes. Original members included Disney Legends Dick Nunis and Ron Dominguez. When the attraction was closed to make way for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Order members preserved souvenirs from the original attraction. The Order member who owned this bell attributed it as from a Mine Train, though it does not match one we have seen, possibly taken from Walt Disney World or another Park train vehicle. The bell is mounted to a wooden base with two golden railroad spikes and a plaque reading "Order of the Red Handkerchief," most likely used in meetings. The bell measures 8" in diameter x 8" high and is in very good working condition with expected wear from use. The entire piece measures 16" x 16" x 17.5" high and is in very good condition. This is truly a unique and enduring piece of Disneyland history.
