(Disney, 1989-90s) A unique RCA camera and table stand used by Disney animators. The Walt Disney Feature Animation Florida studio opened in 1989 with 40 employees, originally producing the cartoon short “Roller Coaster Rabbit,” and supporting productions overseen by the main Studio in Burbank, with “Mulan” being the first animated feature produced entirely in Florida. The 1990s were a transitional time for animation, as an entirely film-driven medium was moving towards digital, and video recording was a useful tool in this period. This RCA camera with table stand allowed the feature animators themselves to shoot video of their pencil drawings and instantly see the results. There was no longer a need to wait until a sequence was complete and send it to the film department and wait for it to develop to review the work. The animators could use this setup to view their work right away, even for just a few key drawings, and adjust their work in the moment. By the time the Florida Studio closed in 2004, this technology was obsolete as digital techniques moved to the forefront, and this camera was sold to Project Firefly which worked on "Brother Bear 2" and "Curious George." The camera comes with the table, mounting arm, and two fluorescent light fixtures, one of which has a support on the table. The lighting fixtures have non-standard plugs, and the camera’s hardwire cable is cut, so the function has not been tested. Measuring 35.25” x 33.5” x 67.5” high, this camera and stand display in very good condition, showing well-earned wear from production use by the Disney animators themselves.
