(Disney, 1950) An original concept painting by Color Stylist Mary Blair for Cinderella. Although she had worked for the Studio since the 1940s, it was the 1950s that brought Mary Blair to the forefront of the Studio Animation Department. Walt Disney chose Blair as the color stylist for Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and several theatrical shorts. It was her conceptual work and styling that set the tone for the first three features for the studio in the 1950s. Her early concepts are considered by many collectors to be some of the most desirable and important artwork to come out of the Studio. This concept for Cinderella is accomplished in gouache on art board, and explores a key scene from the film. Cinderella is depicted as she is ferried to the Royal Ball aboard a magical pumpkin carriage prepared by her Fairy Godmother. The piece has a painted image size of 9.5”x8.5” on its 10”x10” artists board. It is in very good condition, with minor fading, some surface wear, and pinholes in the corners.
