(Famous Studios, 1945) A production used photostat model sheet of the Cannibal Chief and Tribesmen from the 1945 Popeye short “Pop-Pie a la Mode.” Model sheets such as these were distributed to animators and crew working on the production to ensure character design continuity. The 11” x 14” model sheet is in good condition with edge wear and small pinholes from production use. Fleischer Studios was a pioneering and influential animation studio founded 1929 by the Fleischer brothers Max and Dave. The studio was responsible for the creation of cartoon greats like Koko the Clown, Bimbo, Superman’s first animated appearance, and their biggest box office stars, Betty Boop and the animated version of Popeye the Sailor. Despite the studio’s eventual acquisition by its distributor, Paramount Pictures, and restructuring to the formation of Famous Studios, the characters they created continue to delight modern audiences to this day.
