(Disneyland, 1954) An original pre-opening concept drawing of Tomorrowland by legendary Imagineer Bruce Bushman. In 1954, the first episode of Walt Disney's Disneyland television show debuted, and featured Walt Disney describing the different lands of his upcoming theme park. Since the park was still in its design and construction phases, there weren't photos of the park to compliment Walt's descriptions. Instead, Walt showed the countless wide-eyed viewers at home early original concept art as he described areas of his park. This original drawing by Bushman, is an early concept for Tomorrowland that was actually shown by Walt Disney in the first episode of the Disneyland television show. In addition to appearing on screen, the drawing would also help provide artistic direction for the completion of Tomorrowland. Accomplished in conte crayon and charcoal on thin art paper that is mounted to art board, the drawing has an image size of 22"x29.25" within a 30"x37.25" frame. The condition is fair, with wavy creases throughout the paper, a few spots of discoloration and yellowing from use and age, and some wear to the frame from previous display. This original artwork is a museum quality artifact of Disneyland history, having been used directly by Walt Disney and his Imagineers in the creation of his park.
